Sometimes in life, things happen and we don't know WHY or HOW they happened. It seems at times we just WAKE up in the middle of our lives and we are baffled as to how we arrived at the place we happen to be. Sometimes its a good thing, sometimes not, but I'd be willing to bet it happens to all of us at some point in time.
Have you ever stopped the wheels of your life from turning, for just a brief moment, to reflect on how you have evolved through the years? Do you now understand why certain people were in your life at one point and they aren't any more? Do you remember some people and others names escape you? Do you recall how you once were so infatuated you thought you'd literally DIE if a certain someone didn't fall head over heels in love with you immediately? Do you know what THAT person is doing right now? Is it STILL the most burning desire in your heart? Doubtful.
Garth Brooks had a popular song out several years back called, "Thank God for Unanswered Prayers". In the song, along with his wife, he revisits his old high school for a football game. There, he runs into his old flame. They visit for a time, stammer with their words and as he starts to walk away he reflects on how grateful he is that God hadn't answered his prayers LONG ago. It's unspoken that the two of them share little if anything in common any more and she is as UN-impressed with him as he is with her. They've both evolved and grown in different ways and directions. It's also unspoken that if he'd ended up with his high school sweetie, he wouldn't have met and fallen in love with his wife. In fact, he may not have become the person he is today.
What doesn't remain unspoken is that God knows exactly what He's doing in our lives. Each of us came to this planet with specific lessons to learn and experiences to have. Sometimes we feel that we suffer MORE than anyone else in our lives. Sometimes we feel that we are MORE deserving than anyone else we know. Sometimes we feel completely Blessed because we DON'T have the same problems others do. Does this mean we are without trouble and problems? No. What ALL of it means is that God is at work in ALL of our lives and that each of us has a specific lesson plan. My plan is different from yours and vice versa.
It's important to stop every now and then and reflect back on who we are and from where we have come. Everyone learns at his or her own pace. If you are like me and I suspect you are, sometimes we revisit the same lessons over and over again until they are finally learned. It doesn't mean we have failed. It means we are human and despite the fact that we feel we are getting no where at times, we are continually growing and evolving with each passing day.
Keep your chin up! If you are still alive and breathing, you are still learning and that my friends, is a very good thing. Thank you God and Bless EACH of you today and always.
